Honoring Loved Ones: Celebrate a Life Campaign in South Surrey

Celebrate a Life: A South Surrey Holiday Tradition to Remember Loved Ones

The holiday season brings joy, togetherness, and celebration, but for many, it’s also a time of reflection and sorrow as they remember loved ones who have passed. In South Surrey, the Celebrate a Life South Surrey campaign offers a meaningful way to honor their memory while supporting vital hospice programs.

Hosted by the Peace Arch Hospice Society, this annual event, now in its 41st year, invites the community to commemorate loved ones by placing their names on paper doves. These delicate tributes adorn a Christmas tree located at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre from December 1 to 23.

“Each dove reflects love, connection, and cherished memories,” explains hospice executive director Amanda McNally. The doves are later collected and kept in a glass urn until a touching Dove Ceremony, where they are respectfully honored.

A Campaign Rooted in Compassion

Volunteers at the Celebrate a Life South Surrey tree dedicate over 400 hours annually to listening, sharing, and supporting those in grief. Whether visitors are seeking solace or simply contributing to this meaningful campaign, the volunteers offer a compassionate presence.

For a $20 donation, supporters receive a handcrafted keepsake dove, and all proceeds fund grief and palliative programs provided free to the community. This year’s campaign also highlights the Living with Grief During the Holidays workshop on December 3 at 6:30 p.m., offering strategies to navigate loss during festive times.

Celebrate Life, Support Community

The Peace Arch Hospice Society’s programs are a lifeline for individuals coping with loss, providing workshops, bedside vigils, and grief support. The Celebrate a Life South Surrey campaign not only funds these initiatives but also fosters a sense of connection and remembrance.
