Potential High-Rise Development in Langley

A new development proposal by Polygon Pacific Homes could reshape Langley skyline with the introduction of three high rise towers. Here’s what you need to know:

Development Proposal Details

Polygon Pacific Homes has applied to build between 1,200 and 1,400 housing units, potentially including high-rise towers, on one of the largest remaining empty lots in the Willowbrook area. The proposed site is located on the northeast corner of 66th Avenue and 200th Street, adjacent to the Home Depot.

Rezoning Application

Polygon seeks a rezoning of the grassy lot to realize its development vision. Previous proposals for the site never materialized, despite surrounding areas being developed into various housing types.

Proposed Plans

Documents submitted by Polygon Pacific Homes and RH Architects Inc. outline two potential plans for the site:

  1. The first option comprises nine six-story wood-framed apartment buildings, creating 1,255 housing units with mixed-use structures at the south end.
  2. The second option includes low-rise buildings at the north end and three high-rise towers, rising to a minimum of 18 stories at the south end along 66th Avenue. This plan would yield 1,465 housing units.

Future Outlook

Polygon plans to commence construction from the north end of the site, gradually progressing southward over approximately a decade. The proposal’s inclusion of high-rise towers serves as a forward-looking approach to future development needs.

Current Status

The application, filed in December and currently under review by Langley Township staff, is yet to undergo council consideration.

Conclusion

The potential introduction of high rise towers by Polygon Pacific Homes signals a significant development in Langley urban landscape. As Langley Township evaluates the proposal, the community awaits further updates on this transformative project. Stay tuned for developments as Langley’s skyline continues to evolve.
