Operating chicken farms with quota included rarely make it to a public search. The listings below cover current opportunities in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Langley, but many farms trade privately, often grower to grower. Chicken Farm FAQ · BC
Broiler farms, quota & barn requirements.
Chicken (broiler) farms are the largest slice of BC’s poultry market. Whether you’re buying your first operation or selling an established one, these are the questions that matter.
5 Questions Answered · Updated 2026
Chicken Quota
Meat-chicken production is regulated by the BC Chicken Marketing Board. Quota can transfer with registered premises or, in some cases, separately from the land — but both require an application and Board approval, and the premises must meet certification and approval requirements.
Quota does not simply run with the land. Any transfer must be applied for by both parties and approved by the applicable marketing board, and it isn’t included in a sale unless expressly stated in the Contract of Purchase and Sale.
Very much so. The Board generally allots transferred quota only where it’s satisfied there’s a Board-approved building with adequate premises. A farm’s barn size, condition, and approval status can decide whether a transfer proceeds at all — so they’re not just price factors, they’re deal factors.
Buying a Chicken Farm
Modern, well-ventilated barns sized to the quota; strong biosecurity; reliable water and power; efficient feed and manure systems; environmental compliance for runoff; and room to expand. The best operations are genuinely turn-key — a buyer can run cycles from day one.
