The UDISTRICT vision emerged between 2011 and 2012, when City of Abbotsford staff, UFV faculty, students, and community members collaborated to imagine how the University of the Fraser Valley campus and its surrounding neighbourhood would evolve over the next 30 years. The goal was to create a walkable, mixed-use, amenity-rich district that integrates the university with the community. This joint planning initiative between UFV and the City ultimately produced the UDistrict Neighbourhood Plan.

The City of Abbotsford developed a comprehensive four-stage planning process to create the Historic Downtown Neighbourhood Plan (HDNP). The plan renews the long-term vision for this unique, heritage-rich district and enhances the lively urban environment found there today. Considered by many as one of Abbotsford’s cultural and commercial hearts, Historic Downtown is known for its independent shops, dining, arts, and community events. The HDNP outlines how the area will continue evolving into a complete neighbourhood and a citywide destination.

Abbotsford completed a four-stage planning process to establish the City Centre Neighbourhood Plan (CCNP). As a growing city with several historic nodes—but no single defining urban core—the CCNP sets a new vision for a vibrant, walkable, mixed-use centre at the heart of the community. With key anchors like Mill Lake and Abbotsford’s employment hub nearby, the plan strengthens land-use designations, design direction, and policy guidance to support a more complete, connected, and dynamic urban centre.

The McKee Neighbourhood Plan (MNP) was prepared through a four-stage planning process by the City of Abbotsford. McKee is a mountainside neighbourhood known for its natural open spaces, trails, and scenic terrain. The MNP outlines how future growth will integrate homes, schools, parks, natural areas, and neighbourhood amenities into one cohesive community.
