Neighbourhood guide · FVRD Electoral Area H and the Cultus Lake Park Board · Cultus Lake
Cultus Lake is a lake and a community in the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) Electoral Area H, south of the City of Chilliwack. It is not inside the City. The FVRD says Area H includes Columbia Valley, Cultus Lake and Lindell Beach. Part of the area is Cultus Lake Park, which the Cultus Lake Park Board runs under its own law, the Cultus Lake Park Act, 1932. The Park covers 640 acres. I use three MLS area names for the lake: Cultus Lake North, Cultus Lake East and Cultus Lake South. Official sources don’t define their borders. See all Chilliwack neighbourhood guides.

Three MLS areas
I use three MLS area names for the lake. No official source defines their borders, so each card says what the official sources do give for that name.
Schools
Chilliwack is in School District 33 (SD33). SD33’s Long Range Facilities Plan says its elementary schools are kindergarten to grade 5, its middle schools grades 6 to 8 and its secondary schools grades 9 to 12. Names, grades and addresses from the SD33 District Directory 2025-26 and the Province’s school list. Collected from official pages on October 13 and 14, 2026.
SD33’s elementary schools are kindergarten to grade 5, its middle schools grades 6 to 8 and its secondary schools grades 9 to 12. Catchments are set by address, so confirm a specific address with the SD33 School Locator.

Planning, zoning and flood
Plans, zoning and flood rules can be different for each lot.
Cultus Lake is outside the City of Chilliwack, so City zoning does not apply. The FVRD sets zoning and issues building permits for Electoral Area H, including Cultus Lake Park, and the Cultus Lake Park Board makes its own bylaws. Send me the address and I’ll point you to the right rules.

FAQ
Cultus Lake is in FVRD Electoral Area H, south of the City of Chilliwack, and the FVRD says Area H includes Columbia Valley, Cultus Lake and Lindell Beach. No official boundary is published for “Cultus Lake North,” “Cultus Lake East” or “Cultus Lake South.” The FVRD Area H Evacuation Guide lists Cultus Lake North (1,217 residents in the 2021 Census) and Cultus Lake South (792) as separate communities. Ask me which MLS area an address is in.
BC Transit route 56 Cultus Lake runs from July 1 until Labour Day, between Cottonwood Mall and the Cultus Lake Marina. The Park Board’s Village Centre Plan says there is no year-round transit service to or within the Cultus Lake Park community, and that residents are largely vehicle dependent. See the route 56 page.
Cultus Lake Swílhcha Community School (kindergarten to grade 5), 71 Sunnyside Blvd, Cultus Lake, is the only SD33 school with a Cultus Lake address in the Province’s list. SD33’s Families of Schools list groups it with Mt. Slesse Middle and G. W. Graham Secondary. Check an exact address with the SD33 School Locator.
Cultus Lake Provincial Park has four campgrounds and day-use areas with wharfs and sandy beaches at Entrance Bay and Maple Bay. The Park Board runs Sunnyside Campground (4165 Columbia Valley Highway) and the Community Hall (4220 Columbia Valley Highway, up to 90 people). The nearest public library is Sardis Library, 5819 Tyson Road. I found no library branch at Cultus Lake.
The Park Board makes bylaws for Cultus Lake Park, and the FVRD sets zoning and issues building permits. PlanCultus (Bylaw No. 1080, 2016) is the Park’s land use plan, and the FVRD’s Official Community Plan for Electoral Areas E and H is Bylaw No. 1115, 2011. The Park Board awarded its Village Centre redevelopment RFP to Diverse Properties as preferred proponent on December 10, 2025, and the award does not approve the final project.
The FVRD Area H Evacuation Guide lists flooding and landslide or slope stability among the local hazards, and Columbia Valley Road is the one road in and out for the populated area around the lake. BC Parks says the Cultus Lake Horse Trail crosses an area with an active landslide and recommends not crossing it in intense rain. I did not find a property-level floodplain map for Cultus Lake. Ask me or the FVRD about a specific lot.
Homes in Cultus Lake Park are on leased lots, and the Park Board says it has more than 1,500 residential leaseholders. The FVRD’s report says most housing units in Electoral Areas E and H combined are single detached (78%), and movable dwellings make up 21%. These figures are not for Cultus Lake alone. ALR status is set parcel by parcel, so check the exact address on the Agricultural Land Commission map.
