September is a great month to get out around White Rock and South Surrey. The summer crowds start to slow down, but there are still plenty of markets, community fundraisers, theatre productions and waterfront events happening throughout the month.

Parkinson SuperWalk – September 12

The annual Parkinson SuperWalk returns to Memorial Park on the White Rock waterfront on Saturday, September 12.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by the walk at 10:00 a.m. Participation is free, with funds raised helping support Parkinson’s programs, services, advocacy and research.

Playing for Proz – September 12

Playing for Proz is a special evening of live music honouring Dr. David Proznick and his influence on generations of local musicians.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Surrey Arts Centre. Profits will help establish the Dr. David Proznick Keystone Award for future music students at Semiahmoo Secondary.

Cleo Awards Gala – September 12

The Cleo Awards return to the Oceana PARC Playhouse at 1532 Johnston Road. The annual gala celebrates theatre productions, performers and creative talent from across the Fraser Valley.

It should be a fun evening for anyone who enjoys local theatre or wants to support the area’s performing-arts community.

White Rock Beach Cleanup – September 13

Help clean up the beach and Marine Drive with the Lower Mainland Green Team.

The free community cleanup runs from 9:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., meeting beside the Oxford Comfort Station at 14780 Marine Drive. Gloves, litter pickers, safety equipment and snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

White Rock Farmers’ Market – Sundays Until October 11

The White Rock Farmers’ Market continues every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Miramar Village Plaza and along Johnston Road.

With more than 170 vendors, visitors can shop for locally grown produce, baked goods, prepared food, handmade products and crafts while enjoying live music in the heart of Uptown White Rock.

Bottle and Jar Painting – September 14

A Palette of Fun is hosting a bottle and jar painting class at The Morrison Café + Kitchen + Bar on Pacific Avenue.

The class runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and is designed for all experience levels. Participants can paint decorative bottles or jars and add fairy lights to create a personalized fall decoration.

Barefoot in the Park – September 17 to October 3

Peninsula Productions is bringing Neil Simon’s popular comedy Barefoot in the Park to the stage at 14600 North Bluff Road.

The story follows newlyweds Corie and Paul as they adjust to married life, a small Manhattan apartment and their very different personalities. Performances run on selected dates from September 17 through October 3.

Terry Fox Run – September 20

The South Surrey and White Rock Terry Fox Run takes place at South Surrey Athletic Park on Sunday, September 20.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with the run starting at 9:00 a.m. Participants can walk, run or roll while raising money for cancer research and continuing Terry Fox’s legacy.

White Rock Craft Beer Festival – September 26

The White Rock Craft Beer Festival returns to Memorial Park on September 26.

The waterfront festival features more than 10 breweries, cideries, meaderies and wineries from across Metro Vancouver. Visitors can also enjoy live music, food vendors, games and views of the pier and Semiahmoo Bay.

This is a ticketed event for guests aged 19 and older.

The White Rock and South Surrey Culture Crawl takes place October 3 and 4.
